Fleet — License

The Naftiko Fleet uses a three-license model. Licensing is not at the component level — it is at the artifact level: the Fleet bundle has one license, the OSS components have another, and the premium features have a third.

Tier Scope License Notes
The Naftiko Fleet bundle (Community edition) Shipyard, the umbrella installer, planned Crafter / Warden / Skipper Community baselines, VS Code extension, Backstage templates, Kubernetes operator Naftiko Fleet Freeware EULA (closed source) Free for personal and internal business use, redistributable with the installer intact. Full text.
Embedded OSS components Ikanos and Polychro — released independently in their own repositories Apache License 2.0 Same binary in Community, Standard, Enterprise. Usable standalone, outside the Fleet. No commercial add-ons.
Standard and Enterprise premium features Hosted Crafter, capability catalog, fleet observability dashboard, hosted Shipyard Playground, Warden fleet-wide distribution, Skipper multi-region routing, SSO/RBAC, audit trail, air-gapped distribution, premium support Naftiko Commercial License Per-seat / per-org for Standard; per-instance for Enterprise.

Two components stay 100% Apache 2.0

Ikanos and Polychro are fully Apache 2.0 in every edition. There is no "Standard Ikanos" or "Enterprise Polychro" — the open-source version is the version, in every tier. Commercial licensing only ever applies to premium features layered on Shipyard, Crafter, Warden, and Skipper, plus cross-component governance and scale add-ons.

Why a Freeware EULA and not Apache 2.0 for the Fleet bundle?

The Naftiko Fleet — Community edition is the bundled product (installer, brand, hosted docs hub, planned web UIs). The components that have direct equivalents in the open-source ecosystem (the engine and the linter) are released as standalone Apache 2.0 projects so you can use, fork, and embed them anywhere. The bundle itself is freeware to protect Naftiko's brand and to keep the closed-source planned components (Crafter UI, Warden engine, Skipper orchestrator) on a coherent license track.

The Naftiko Fleet Freeware EULA — at a glance

The Community-edition Fleet bundle is licensed under the Naftiko Fleet Freeware EULA:

  • What you may do — install and use the Software on any number of devices under your direct control, for personal or internal business purposes; redistribute the installer unchanged and free of charge with credit to Naftiko.
  • What you may not do — decompile, reverse-engineer, modify, "crack", rent, lease, sublicense for commercial gain, or remove Naftiko branding.

The EULA is closed source — it does not grant rights to the source code of the bundled Fleet. (The embedded OSS components remain Apache 2.0 in their own repositories.)
